How Much Is Too Much???

Like any caring human being, I’m sensitive to all the issues relentlessly being tossed at us by the news lately but there are things happening that have little or nothing to do rights, human or otherwise. Guns are gone from iconic cartoon characters…schools are changing names…TV shows are being pulled…and now, get this, Kellogg’s is under fire for having, and I quote, “three white guys” on their packaging. I’m talking of course about Snap, Crackle and Pop. What the devil do they have to do with any of this? And just when you think things couldn’t get any more goofy, just today we discover Quaker Oats is going to change the name and image on the Aunt Jemima brands. All this isn’t helping the issue of race relations in this country, it’s making a joke out of it. And we’re letting it. Many people of color are taking to social media to criticize it. What’s next? Crayola changing the color black to dark? Lady Antebellum changing their name because the term reflects a time during the Civil War? Before the war, actually! There are many other instances that I don’t want to get into because it just gets me upset. If people would spend this kind of time and energy REALLY addressing the problem, starting with families and kids, we’d end up with some tangible results. Geez…
