Maybe Neal Was Right!

Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On may not just be a great country song from the one n’ only Neal McCoy!  ‘Beer goggles’ really are real. British researchers found that drunk participants were equally distracted from a task by both “attractive” and “unattractive” faces, while those who were sober were more distracted by “attractive” faces. Study authors note that alcohol “may level the playing friend” among “potential suitors” by causing them to pay attention to all potential mates, not just the “attractive” ones. This “beer goggle” effect was observed in people with “relatively low intoxication levels” or 0.01 percent to 0.09 percent blood alcohol concentration. Study co-author Derek Hein adds, “Most people have heard of the ‘beer goggles’ effect, and our research adds to the body of evidence showing that there is some truth to this anecdotal wisdom.”
