Know What The Kids Are Texting

Warning: note sexual and disturbing content to some.

Our kids are grown and gone but as grandparents, and being more technically savvy than most, it's time to observe how the younger generation is communicating online.  Now, today's moms and dads are way cooler than Edith and Archie Bunker back in the 1980's, right? Sorry, folks --but you're probably way off base and may know very, very little about what your kids are doing --especially on social media or while they're texting friends. In fact, the sneaky little buggers have worked out several codes to avoid writing actual words and here are a few to look out for:

   53X = sneaky way to type "sex"
   KMS = kill myself
   LH6 = let's have sex
   KYS = kill yourself
   MOS or POS = mom or parent over the shoulder
   GNOC = get naked on camera
   99 = parents are gone
   WTTP = want to trade photos?
   LMIRL = let's meet in real life
   CU46 =  see you for sex
   PAL= parents are listening
   GYPO = get your pants off

He feels moms and dads need new ways to safeguard their teens from the "harmful side effects of online interaction" and warn kids about the digital equivalent of talking to strangers or looking both ways before crossing the street.
