Let’s Go Around With This One…

Civility is dead when you navigate a roundabout.  Rhinelander’s new intersection at the juncture of Highways 8 & 47, in my opinion, has cleared a deadly bottleneck, allowing traffic to smoothly flow through.  But that “smooth” transition is what I’m taking issue with.
I’ve traveled the country, many times with a boat in tow through roundabouts with multiple lanes.  If you don’t know where you’re going I guarantee several serpentine trips around it.  But here, there’s one lane and one word that ALL drivers must adhere to.  That’s YIELD!
It’s not that difficult, folks.  Just because the driver in front of you went through does not mean you immediately follow.  Yield means look for oncoming traffic, then proceed.  Not cruise through.  It was nuts with campers leaving the Crandon Off Road races as I sat for an inordinate amount of time as truck after truck just flowed past.  No yielding, no nothing.  If something’s going to happen, it’s because people don’t take a moment to look and simply charge into the lane.  At the same time, some people just park there because they’re afraid someone’s going to zoop out and get in their way.  C’mon, everyone.  Wherever you’re going will be still be there.  Practice the rules of the road and we’ll all be better off.
